@Regrann from @amhistorymuseum - This is a hand-cranked tortilladora or tortilla press. “Concha” Sanchez used it in the 1940s at the family's tortilleria in Ventura County, California. Concha came to the United States with her husband Abundio in 1912 at the beginning of the Mexican Revolution. Through the 1920s, they worked in Kansas, in Texas, and in the produce fields of California, where Concha opened her shop, making and selling tortillas in her neighborhood. Her grandson, Adrian Sanchez, fondly recalled the machine and working with her to make tortillas and tamales. We hope you get to eat a fresh, warm tortilla or two today on this #CincoDeMayo! #MexicanAmericanHeritage #FoodHistory #SmithsonianFood #Tortillas #FreshTortillas #WomensHistory #BusinessHistory - #regrann
