@Regrann from @americanantiquarian - For our final entry for this month's #libraryfeast challenge we want to focus on our manuscript cookbooks. This page comes from a cookbook kept by Eunice Williams (her dates and location are not yet identified), likely around 1800. This page shows recipes for a conserve of roses and candied Angelica. On other pages Eunice wrote out preparation for puddings, syllabub, and cheesecake. Angelica, a member of the parsley family, is preserved only in the springtime, when the shoots are tenderest. Candied Angelica was used mostly to decorate cakes or as an after meal treat. Bring on the sugar! Our entire collection of manuscript cookbooks has been digitized -- you can find them all via our General Catalog. Thanks for a great challenge @rutgers_scua and @kpeck1916 and @utsaspeccoll ! Now, pass the cake! #candiedangelica #herbsandspices #historiccookery #manuscript #cookbooks #aasmanuscript@pochove - #regrann
